About Us
The Wyndham Hobsons Bay Lutheran Church is a part of the Lutheran Church of Australia & New Zealand (LCANZ). We are a congregation of Christian believers worshipping at two separate Places of Worship, St Philips and Martin Luther. (see Home page for addresses)
St Philips Lutheran Congregation was previously located on Duncans Rd in Werribee, Victoria. In 2007 the congregation stepped out in faith and relocated to our current location in Tarneit, sharing the site with Good News Lutheran College, a P-12 College. Being on a shared site is a blessing to both St Philips and the Good News Lutheran College and allows us to share the Good News of Jesus with both those in the Church and College communities. In addition to the WHBLC Congregation, our brothers and sisters from the Australian Kachin Christian Church also use our St Philips Worship Centre for their weekly worship. You can learn more about them here.
Martin Luther Worship Centre, the namesake of the founder of the Lutheran faith, is located in Altona North, Victoria. The congregation here was started primarily by German immigrants and held German speaking services for many years. In February 2020 we celebrated 60 years that the good news has been proclaimed from this church. In addition to the Martin Luther Congregation, our brothers and sisters from the Tongan Mooi Foou church use the Martin Luther Worship Centre for their weekly worship.
In 2008 the decision was made to combine the two congregations under one banner, the Wyndham Hobsons Bay Lutheran Church, representing the two geographic areas in which we serve - the City of Wyndham and the City of Hobsons Bay.
As a congregation of the Lutheran Church of Australia & New Zealand, we believe in the Bible as the inspired and true Word of God. We believe that we are all born sinful and need to be made right with God. This cannot be done by our own works, but only through God's free gift of grace. We believe God sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world as a human, to suffer and die on the cross to pay the price for everyone's sin, once and for all. We believe Jesus rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven, offering eternal life for those that believe and are baptised into God's family. You can find more information on the "What Lutheran's Believe" page of the LCANZ website here.
The good news is this free gift of God's grace is available to everybody; you, me, and everyone else you know . There is a God who loves you immensely, and who wants a personal relationship with you, no matter what you may have done in the past, or what may happen in the future. He wants to free you from whatever chains are holding you in life, and give you the true freedom to live life to the full as one of His children. And the best bit of all? All you need to do to receive this amazing free gift is receive God into your life as your Lord and Saviour.
